Carlyle Group acquires $700 million stake in South Korean environmental health home appliance company

Sources familiar with the matter reveal that Carlyle Group has reached an agreement to acquire Korean household and healthcare equipment leasing platform ChungHo Group for $700 million. The rising inheritance tax burden in South Korea has prompted many business owners to sell assets. It is reported that the company's chairman passed away last year, and Carlyle will acquire all shares of ChungHo from its founding family. The individuals involved have requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter; they stated that this transaction is mainly to pay the high inheritance taxes, and the company currently has no suitable successor to take over operations.
