Human rights organization Detained in Dubai founder Radha Stirling wrote that multiple cryptocurrency industry professionals working in Dubai have been interrogated, beaten, and tortured while in custody in the UAE, and stated that the UAE is no longer a safe place to work and live for technology, AI, and crypto industry practitioners.

In response, on-chain investigator ZachXBT said that the detained individuals are not ordinary "crypto entrepreneurs," but are suspected of involvement in high-profile crypto crimes such as Genesis creditor information theft, Kroll SIM swap attacks, Coinbase social engineering scams, data extortion, and other threatening activities.
ZachXBT stated that law enforcement agencies have seized approximately $18.9 million in related funds, but also emphasized that even if the allegations are true, they should not be subjected to unfair treatment.
