Golden Finance reports that on June 7th, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that if Federal Reserve policymakers choose to raise interest rates after U.S. employment data significantly exceeded expectations, it would be a wrong decision. At the same time, he insisted that he does not want to influence Kevin Warsh before his first Federal Reserve meeting as chair. In an interview with NBC, Trump said, "Nowadays, whenever economic data performs well, the market actually falls because everyone thinks the Fed will raise rates. But there is no reason to raise rates." Trump's remarks further increase the economic and political pressure on Warsh. Trump stated, "Raising the benchmark interest rate is the wrong approach. In fact, we should lower rates." Trump said, "I am now working with Kevin. I respect him very much, but my view is that when a country's economy is doing well, it shouldn't immediately be punished by raising rates." He added, "We have debt issues and many other things to handle, with many plans to push forward. I want to further expand defense spending."
