Why is "simplicity" the ultimate survival strategy? 👇
Stephen Wolfram is a legendary figure in the tech and academic worlds, known as the "scientific madman" or the "living Da Vinci."
1) He just published a ten-thousand-word article today titled "The Game Between Programs."
He conducted a crazy experiment: without human involvement, hundreds of AI programs with different logics played "Rock-Paper-Scissors," battling endlessly and scheming against each other, to see who could become the "martial arts alliance leader."
The results were very counterintuitive.
2) In traditional understanding, the more complex the strategy, the larger the model, and the deeper the thinking, the stronger the program, right?
But Wolfram's leaderboard analysis found that the winning strategy's score has no real relation to its behavioral complexity.
In fact, the highest overall win rate was achieved by some very simple, straightforward "foolhardy" programs.
3) Why?
Because in the "program vs. program" battlefield, large and complex systems are often full of tiny but deadly logical loopholes.
And those relying on extremely simple "trick" rules tend to be the hardest to break.
Isn't this the "Great Dao of simplicity" in business and warfare—"reckless punches beat the master"?
4) What insights does this research give us?
The future world will be dominated by AI, hackers will attack with AI, and cyber defenders will use AI for defense;
In financial markets, major hedge funds are also competing with AI programs.
Wolfram's research offers a new perspective: when training defensive AI or trading AI, don't blindly pursue large and complex models.
Because in the "program vs. program" battlefield, large and complex systems are often riddled with tiny vulnerabilities that opponents can exploit, while simple "hardcore rules" are harder to break.
5) Competition never pushes us unilaterally toward extreme complexity.
Whether in natural evolution, business battles, or the future of AI evolution, "simplicity" and "complexity" will always be intertwined and balanced.
Don't underestimate your opponent's cleverness, nor overcomplicate yourself.
