The UK government plans to procure domestic AI chips to strengthen global competitiveness
BlockBeats News, June 7, according to a report by the UK’s Daily Telegraph, the UK government plans to purchase AI chips from technology companies to encourage these enterprises to continue developing in the UK. UK Minister of Technology Liz Kendall will announce the relevant plans at London Tech Week. According to the draft proposal, the UK government will carry out “strategic procurement” of semiconductor equipment produced by domestic technology companies.
This move is intended to directly support the development of the UK’s domestic chip and AI industries through orders from the UK government, enhance companies’ willingness to expand and invest in the UK, and prevent key technology companies and talent from flowing to overseas markets. Put simply, the UK government hopes to create stable demand for domestic AI and semiconductor companies by taking a “government spending” approach, thereby strengthening the UK’s position in the global AI competition.
