Iran’s World Cup team has set off for Mexico to undergo training camp, but 14 officials accompanying the team are stuck in a predicament because their U.S. visas were not approved.
Deep Tide TechFlow News, June 6th, according to the Associated Press, the Iranian men's national football team departed from Turkey on Saturday to the training base in Tijuana, Mexico, preparing to participate in three World Cup group stage matches later this month in the United States. However, according to Iranian state television, Secretary General of the Iran Football Federation Hedayat Mombeini, Vice Chairman Mehdi Mohammad Nabi, and 14 other team officials and logistical staff have not yet obtained U.S. visas.
Affected by the conflict between Iran and the U.S. and Israel, the team's travel plans have faced repeated setbacks. Due to previous delays in processing U.S. visas, the Iranian team has relocated its training base from Tucson, Arizona, to Tijuana on the Mexican border. An anonymous U.S. official revealed that visas for all players, coaches, and some logistical personnel have been approved, but some applicants affiliated with the federation have been denied visas for "false pretenses."
According to the plan, the Iranian team will face New Zealand and Belgium in Inglewood, California, on June 15 and 21 respectively, and then travel to Seattle on June 26 to play against Egypt. The Iran Football Federation previously insisted that the U.S. issue visas to all personnel, including those with service experience in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and is currently seeking to appeal the visa denial for officials through FIFA.
