Mars Finance News, June 6—According to U.S. Central Command, after U.S. forces intercepted four Iranian-launched suicide drones near the Strait of Hormuz, they carried out strikes on coastal surveillance radar facilities in southern Iran at Ghoruk and Qeshm Island, saying the action was intended to prevent further threats to maritime shipping safety. In response, Iran launched ballistic missiles at U.S. military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain. Iran’s state television said that the targets included two U.S. military bases in Kuwait and U.S. Navy-related facilities in Bahrain. The U.S. military stated that a total of seven missiles were incoming, with six successfully intercepted, and one missing its target; there is currently no report regarding casualties among U.S. personnel. Reports said Bahrain once sounded air-defense alerts, and Kuwaiti forces also activated defensive measures in response to missile and drone threats. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said the attack targets included Kuwait’s Ali Salim Air Force Base and the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, but the U.S. side denied that the related facilities had suffered major damage. Although both sides had reached a ceasefire agreement in April this year, tensions have remained high in recent days. The Strait of Hormuz handles about one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas transportation, and the escalation of the conflict has repeatedly disrupted global energy markets. Meanwhile, negotiations between the U.S. and Iran over issues such as sanctions removal, shipping lanes, and security guarantees are still at a standstill.
