No billionaire built a billion dollar company through hard work alone.

The popular “started in a garage” story leaves out a lot.
Steve Wozniak has said the garage narrative around Apple has been exaggerated. Jeff Bezos received a significant early investment from his parents. The founders of Google came out of Stanford with access to elite networks, investors, and venture capital.
Hard work matters. But so do timing, capital, connections, talent, and luck.
The bootstrap myth sells the idea that anyone can build a billion-dollar company through grit alone. History tells a more complicated story.
