Preliminary estimates released by the European Union's statistical office show that the eurozone inflation rate is expected to be 3.2% year-on-year in May 2026, up from 3.0% in April.
In terms of main components, energy prices are expected to see the highest increase, rising 10.9% year-on-year in May, slightly higher than April's 10.8%; service prices increased by 3.5% year-on-year, up from 3.0% in April; food, alcohol, and tobacco prices rose 2.0% year-on-year, lower than April's 2.4%; non-energy industrial goods prices increased by 0.9% year-on-year, up from 0.8% in April.
The EU's statistical office stated that the above data are preliminary estimates, reflecting that the rise in energy prices remains one of the main factors driving higher inflation in the eurozone, and additionally, the increase in service prices has also expanded.
