The report shows that the number of layoffs in the United States in May due to AI reached a record high.

Golden Finance reports that on June 4, Challenger, a U.S. employment data company, said that artificial intelligence was the No. 1 reason for layoffs for the third consecutive month in May. During the month, it announced 38,579 layoffs. This is the highest monthly record since Challenger began tracking this reason in 2023, accounting for 40% of all layoffs in May—up significantly from 7% in January, 25% in March, and 26% in April. So far this year, AI-related layoffs have reached 87,714, accounting for 22% of all layoffs in 2026, far exceeding 54,836 AI-caused layoffs in all of 2025.
