My U.S. Stock Beginner Investment Review

As an experienced investor, Little God of Wealth has been tortured by the big A stocks countless times, and now I finally get to access the long-envious U.S. stocks. Here’s a brief share of my recent operations and a review of my trading experience over the past few days.

First, let me talk about my feelings after using Gate for stock trading for a few days:

1. Ease of Use:

1. Simple: Overall, it emphasizes “simplicity”! I’ve already mentioned the specific onboarding process in a previous article (https://www.gate.com/zh/post/status/21588654). Before experiencing Gate stocks, I thought the KYC process would be quite complicated, even prepared my passport just in case. But it turned out I didn’t need to do that at all! Just tap on TradFI → Stocks → Trade in the app, and you can easily buy and sell. There’s no perceivable secondary KYC process; the whole process is no different from trading cryptocurrencies.

2. Stock Pool Depth is Like the Ocean: I’ve traded U.S. stocks before, mainly through tokenized stocks, which limited the range of available stocks to those that had been tokenized. Also, I had to remember trading hours myself. Trading during low liquidity or outside trading hours could easily lead to “being cut” (losing money). Now, through a legitimate broker, I can almost buy and sell all listed U.S. stocks. The official support is over 10,000, which is more than enough to build my own “custom stock pool.” Of course, a deep stock pool also requires improving stock screening skills, especially for beginners—preferably focusing on high-quality leading companies, rather than chasing “shanzhai coins” or trying to buy the dip and sell at the top like in the crypto world. If the number of stocks feels overwhelming or hard to analyze, you can directly buy ETFs, similar to the ETFs we buy in A-shares. Given that the current U.S. stock bull market is driven by AI sectors, I recommend allocating some NASDAQ 100 ETFs.

3. Low Fees: The fee structure is the same as Gate’s spot trading fees, charged once daily. Unlike tokenized stocks and perpetual contracts, which tend to have higher fees.

4. Good Liquidity: Since it’s directly connected to the U.S. stock market via a compliant broker, there’s no need to worry about liquidity issues or market makers controlling the market. In extreme market conditions, the risk of sudden illiquidity causing violent price swings or flash crashes is minimized.

5. A Small Suggestion: Since I’m doing stock trading, I suggest borrowing from traditional stock trading apps—adding basic info like main business, financial reports, P/E ratio, etc. Also, sharing research reports from professional institutions on U.S. stocks (if the app can’t do it well, maybe promote them in the Gate Plaza). Lastly, I hope pre-market and after-hours trading can be launched soon.

In summary, the advantages of Gate stocks are (so you can just copy this answer if someone asks in a live stream later 😀): easy to operate, no secondary account opening needed, many stocks, dividends and stock bonuses, low fees, good liquidity.

2. Trading Review

1. After a few days of trading, my biggest feeling is “I’m too old to stay up all night.” With over ten years of A-share trading experience, I’m quite comfortable with U.S. stocks, but the time difference is a challenge for every domestic U.S. stock trader. I usually rest at 11 pm, but for U.S. stocks, I’m still battling hard. Every morning I wake up with a feeling like opening a blind box to check my holdings. My strategy is, since I can’t do intraday short-term trading, I prefer medium-term holding, combined with technical analysis—placing buy and sell orders at support and resistance levels in advance, based on my profit-taking and stop-loss targets, without chasing excess profits. You can consider this approach too—don’t stay up late every night; your health is priceless, and frequent late nights can dull your mind, making you prone to impulsive trades.

2. U.S. stocks, especially tech giants, tend to have larger fluctuations than A-shares. It’s common to see 5-6% swings daily. My approach is to hold spot positions without leverage, only risking what I can afford, so I can sleep peacefully and avoid shorting any stocks against the trend.

3. My Portfolio Review:

Total position: 30%. I allocated 30% of my funds to U.S. stocks, while the remaining 70% is still in the crypto market. As a beginner, my main goal is to familiarize myself with the market.

Position strategy: Spot holdings, no leverage, no shorting, medium to long-term holding.

Position distribution:

NVIDIA

Cost price: 214

Position share: 30%

Profit target: Hold medium to long term

Stop-loss: $205

Micron Technology

Buy-in price: 1015

Position share: 10%

Profit target: $1200

Stop-loss: below $1000

Microsoft

Cost price: 421

Position share: 30%

Profit target: Hold medium to long term

Stop-loss: below $400
