Iran denies attacking Kuwait Airport, claiming the damage was caused by a U.S.-made "Patriot" system malfunction.
BlockBeats News, June 4 — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran stated that it did not fire a missile at the passenger terminal building of Kuwait International Airport. The related damage occurred due to a misoperation after a U.S.-made “Patriot” missile defense system failed to intercept, which caused the interceptor missile to fall.
A spokesperson for the IRGC, Hossein Moughbih, said that an investigation showed that the Iranian Aerospace Force had never attacked Kuwait Airport, and that they have obtained relevant evidence. In response, the U.S. Central Command denied the claim, saying Iran’s assertions are “entirely incorrect,” and accusing Iran of “planning and without any reason” using missiles and drones to attack civilian airports.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously stated that multiple civilian facilities, including Kuwait International Airport, were attacked by Iranian ballistic missiles and drones, resulting in 1 death and multiple injuries. Kuwait temporarily closed its airspace and suspended air traffic, and the airport has now resumed operations.
After the incident, Kuwait summoned the Iranian chargé d’affaires in Kuwait, announced a reduction in the number of personnel at the Iranian embassy in Kuwait, and listed two Iranian diplomatic personnel as “undesirable persons,” requiring them to leave within 24 hours. The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Boudavi also issued a statement condemning Iran’s attacks on civilian facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, calling them a “dangerous and unprecedented escalation.”
