I just checked on-chain data for an art project, and the page suddenly "stuttered," and I initially thought it was my internet acting up again... Later I realized it was probably the indexer/subgraph chasing new blocks, or RPC rate limiting, like being gently tugged on the sleeve: "Hold on a moment." Basically, what we see as "real-time" is actually someone organizing a bunch of scattered events into a readable story in the background; if the organization is slow, there will be a lag. It's also quite similar to the current NFT royalty debates, where everyone is watching how fast secondary liquidity moves, but the cash flow for creators is like a water pipe with limited speed, occasionally getting cut off. Anyway, now when I see data jitter, I refresh a couple more times and lower my expectations a bit.
