Google launches a new AI app Dreambeans! Turn your daily life into a limited edition "cartoon story"
Google Labs has recently launched a new AI application called “Dreambeans.” This tool can integrate users’ various Google service data and turn it into limited-quantity cartoon-style life suggestions in the form of “Stories.” The core design philosophy of this app is intended to counter the modern problem of “doomscrolling” addiction, encouraging users to put down their phones after getting daily inspiration and to experience real life instead.

Modern people commonly face issues of phone addiction and information anxiety. To address this, tech giant Google is attempting to come up with a brand-new solution through artificial intelligence (AI). Focused on experimental product design, the Google Labs team officially launched a new AI application called “Dreambeans” on June 3 for iOS and Android platforms. This app, which foreign media have dubbed as “the strangest AI tool Google has named so far,” aims to “truly animate your life,” transforming users’ everyday tracks into practical and fun cartoon-style recommendations.
Integrate personal data to become your exclusive life guide
Dreambeans’ operating mechanism relies heavily on users’ personalized data. After obtaining user authorization, the app connects to and integrates various Google services—including Gmail, Google Calendar (Calendar), Photos, YouTube, and search history—and uses powerful “Personal Intelligence” technology to generate customized content.
Specifically, Dreambeans generates a series of AI illustration “Stories” from this information. These stories mainly focus on lifestyle recommendations—for example, recommending nearby coffee shops worth visiting, providing dog-care knowledge based on calendar events, or collecting and summarizing relevant news articles from the internet based on users’ recent interests. In addition, it proactively prompts users about upcoming travel activities or new things worth exploring.
Limited to 14 stories per day, saying no to “doomscrolling”
Unlike most apps on the market that do everything they can to keep users staying longer, Dreambeans goes the other way. The app’s core design philosophy is to counter the bad habit of “doomscrolling.” Therefore, the system strictly limits the number of stories provided each day to 10 to 14.
Product lead Gozde Oznur emphasized that this design is meant to bring users “a small amount of high-quality inspiration.” Google hopes that after users watch these inspiring cartoon stories every morning, they will put down their phones and go out to experience real life, instead of being immersed in the digital world all day. As for the intriguing app name “Dreambeans,” it comes from its operating pattern: while users are sleeping (Dream), the app processes large amounts of data, and in the morning, like freshly brewed coffee beans (Beans), it condenses the data into a drop of inspiration—bringing users full morning inspiration.
Privacy protection first; initially only available to AI subscribers
When handling such large amounts of sensitive personal data, privacy protection naturally becomes the top priority. Google officially guarantees that these generated cartoon stories are only visible to the user, and that users have full control—so they can delete data at any time or freely choose which Google services to authorize.
At present, Dreambeans’ availability is still subject to certain limitations. In its initial phase, the service is only available to subscribers of “Google AI Ultra” in the United States. As for other users who have personal Google accounts, they currently can only join a waitlist to wait for full access to be rolled out in the future. Whether this innovative attempt that combines AI technology with combating phone addiction can truly change users’ digital habits is a matter worth continued attention from the market.
