Crypto users' first real experience buying US stocks—From FOMO to calm

I wrote a similar article before, but that was when I just bought. Now that I’ve held for a week, my feelings are different.

On the first day I bought NVDA, I checked the price on Gate every 5 minutes. A 0.1% increase made me happy, a 0.1% decrease made me anxious. And I always compared the fluctuations to crypto market volatility: when NVDA dropped 0.5%, I thought “It’s over, is it going to crash?” But the next day, it was back up again. An asset with less than 1% fluctuation in a day, in the crypto world, is considered stablecoin.

Later, I gradually got used to it. Now I only check twice a day: once in the morning, once at night. Even when it drops, I don’t panic because I know it won’t fall 30% in a day like in crypto. Plus, the recovery ability of US stocks is strong; as long as the company’s fundamentals are solid, it will eventually bounce back after a dip.

Another deep feeling is: the “decision fatigue” when trading US stocks is much lower than in crypto. In crypto, I have to consider whether to trade futures or spot, full position or partial, grid trading or martingale, chasing highs or bottom-fishing… There are countless decisions every day, each of which could lead to liquidation. Buying US stocks? Just one decision: buy or not? How much? And that’s it.

Gate makes trading US stocks as smooth as crypto trading, which is very friendly for crypto users. No need to learn a new interface, no need to get used to different order types. Market orders, limit orders, just like buying BTC.

But there is one thing I can’t get used to: US stocks can’t be traded 24/7. Although Gate offers pre-market and after-hours trading, liquidity is not as good as during regular hours. Sometimes, I see news late at night and want to act, but I have to wait until the market opens the next day. Now I’ve developed a habit: every night before bed, I check US stock futures. If futures drop sharply, I place buy orders early the next morning.

Overall, for crypto users, the biggest obstacle to buying US stocks isn’t operation, but mindset. Switching from “minute-level trading” to “day or even week-level holding” takes time to adapt. But once you do, you’ll find the world becomes much calmer. #分享美股交易赢英伟达股票
