Golden Finance reports that on June 3rd, according to Xinhua News Agency, the Office of the United States Trade Representative issued a statement later that evening. Based on the results of the Section 301 investigation, the U.S. Trade Representative plans to impose tariffs of 10% or 12.5% on 60 economies, citing "unprohibited imports of forced labor products" as the reason.
The announcement states that the U.S. Trade Representative has determined that, under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, these economies have failed to effectively implement bans on the import of forced labor products, and their actions, policies, or practices are unreasonable and impose burdens or restrictions on U.S. commerce, allowing for action to be taken.
The U.S. Trade Representative recommends imposing tariffs on imports from these 60 economies but reserves some exceptions. Depending on the measures taken by each economy, the U.S. plans to impose tariffs of 10% or 12.5% on products from these economies.
According to the announcement, interested parties can request to participate in the upcoming hearing or submit written comments. The hearing will be held on July 7th.
