The Philippine Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has removed blockchain technology components and voter verification systems from the 2028 election budget proposal, reducing the original approximately 25 billion Philippine pesos budget by about 6 billion pesos (approximately $102 million). COMELEC Chairman George Garcia stated that the relevant features are not essential for conducting elections, with budget optimization and data privacy risks being the main considerations, and the related technology can still be reconsidered in the future. Garcia speaks quite practically; if it's not essential, don't push it first. Privacy data is indeed a tough issue.

Blockchain elections sound very cool, but when it comes to actual implementation, countries are all hitting the brakes.

Wait, the election isn't until 2028, and you're deleting all the technical components now? This pace is a bit aggressive.

Is the voter verification system also being cut? Then, what alternative plan are you considering for 2028? Just curious.

Remove what was removed, leaving the sentence “It can still be reconsidered in the future”—nothing is said in a definitive way, and the cautious attitude is clearly evident.

Budget optimization is superficial; the deeper issue is a lack of confidence in technological maturity.

60 billion pesos cut—looks like the Philippines’ cautious camp still has the upper hand in on-chain elections.

Saving money is a good thing, but blockchain voting is inherently controversial, and privacy risks definitely need to be carefully considered.
