The world's largest corporate BTC holder Strategy (MSTR) has dropped industry-shaking news: the company sold 32 BTC from May 26–31, at an average price of $77,135, cashing out $2.5 million. This is the first reduction of BTC holdings since 2022, completely breaking Saylor's era of "buy only, never sell" market belief.
1. Core event: From "dead HODLing" to "flexible management"
MSTR's new CEO Phong Le previously hinted: no longer strictly holding "never sell," and may sell coins when necessary;
This reduction + simultaneous stock issuance raised $128 million, aiming to optimize the balance sheet and increase BTC per share;
The company emphasizes: still a net BTC holder, selling is a tactical adjustment, not a bearish signal.
2. Market reaction: MSTR plummets, BTC follows downward
MSTR stock price plunged 9 intraday, closing nearly 5% lower, with market value evaporating billions;
BTC also sharply declined, dropping quickly from $74,000 to $71,500, interpreted by the market as top-tier whales "cashing out at high levels," raising concerns about the future;
Panic spreads across the network, with $390 million in long positions liquidated, retail investor confidence collapsing.
3. Deeper signals: institutional strategy shifts, bull market logic changes
1. Confidence loosening: even the most steadfast "BTC die-hard bulls" are starting to sell, institutions forming consensus on short-term peaks;
2. Liquidity concerns: high interest rates + soaring inflation, institutions prioritize "taking profits" and no longer blindly increasing positions;
3. Compliance and regulation: US CLARITY Act advancing, institutions preparing for potential regulatory risks.
4. Market outlook: not doomsday, but unlikely a quick bull run
Short-term: MSTR selling BTC + ETF outflows continue, BTC rebound weak, high probability of sideways or downward movement;
Mid-term: if the $70,000 level is broken, more institutions may reduce holdings, with a target of $68,000;
Long-term: MSTR still holds $61 billion worth of BTC, long-term "HODLing" logic remains unchanged, only the pace slows down.
Investment insights
Do not idolize any institution, "never sell" is just a phase of belief, not an eternal truth;
Follow institutional rhythm: be cautious at high levels, staggered entries during pullbacks, avoid emotional trading.
