Russia's Ural region seizes 10k mining machines at an illegal mining farm, with electricity theft losses approaching 1 billion rubles

Mars Finance News, according to Bits.media, reports that Russian authorities seized a large illegal cryptocurrency mining farm in the Tagil area of Sverdlovsk Oblast and the neighboring Kushva area. The farm was hidden inside an abandoned industrial enterprise park, with about 10,000 mining machines deployed. The mining operation was shut down through a joint action by the Federal Security Service of Russia, the police, and a power company. A local power company estimates that the losses caused by the farm’s long-term illegal electricity use are close to 1 billion rubles (about $12.7 million). Investigators said that its electricity consumption was enough to meet the lighting needs of a small city. Law enforcement has detained 3 suspects, who are currently under house arrest, and has filed a case for “causing property damage through deception or abuse of trust.” Under Russian law, those involved may face up to 5 years in prison. The investigation shows that the farm’s operators connected to the power grid via intermediary agencies and are suspected of falsifying meter data to conceal the actual electricity usageI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
