Three Times of Network Downtime Due to Update Bugs, Sui Ensures Network Safety
Sui Foundation released an official report regarding the incident of the main network stopping three consecutive times last Thursday and Friday. These series of issues were triggered by the software update version 1.72. The first two outages were caused by a flaw in how the network charged transaction gas fees. Although the development team released a temporary fix on Thursday, the remaining risk gap caused the network to halt again on Friday morning.
The third stoppage occurred due to a completely different bug. When validators restarted to install the fix on Friday, the step actually triggered a hidden bug in the network’s random configuration. As a result, validators failed to close sessions, leading to the system stopping entirely again.
Now, the validator team has successfully patched all issues, both the gas fee bug and the random bug, so network activity has returned to normal. Sui Foundation emphasizes that no user funds were at risk during these series of incidents. During the process, developers from Sui Foundation stated they were assisted by artificial intelligence (AI) agents to accelerate overall problem diagnosis.
