Opportunity 1:700,000, Home-Scale Bitcoin Miner Wins 3.14 BTC Block Reward
An independent Bitcoin miner has just achieved an extraordinary feat by successfully mining block 951771 on their own. Thanks to a very high level of luck with a probability of about 1 in 700,000, the miner managed to claim the full block reward of 3.14 BTC, worth approximately $231,818. This epic moment on Sunday (May 31) once again proves that Bitcoin's fundamental network remains fully open to small-scale participants.
Based on the block metric data, the miner participating through the Braiins Solo service contributes only a very microscopic share of the hashrate. Considering that the total computational power of the global Bitcoin network is currently around 1,000 Exahashes per second (EH/s), it is highly likely that the miner relies solely on a home-scale mining device.
This profit was achieved because the miner operates solo. As a result, instead of just receiving a small fraction of the assets like when joining a regular mining pool, they are entitled to claim the entire standard block subsidy plus transaction fees totaling 0.015 BTC (about $1,137). Although statistically very rare, this solo miner’s victory is entirely reasonable and in accordance with Bitcoin's algorithm rules. Historically, the phenomenon of independent miners successfully mining blocks has occurred roughly 20 to 24 times in the past year.
