Crypto World News reports that Telegram CEO Pavel Durov stated that The Open Network (TON)'s native token will be renamed to Gram, restoring the name from the project's early white paper. TON remains the name of the blockchain network, while Gram becomes its native currency name. The renaming plan is the fourth step of "Make TON Great Again," with the transition expected to take three weeks, and remaining plans undisclosed. The announced steps include network upgrades, increased transaction speed, reduced fees, and Telegram replacing the TON Foundation as the main governing body and largest validator.

Lower fees + faster speeds, that's what users truly care about; the name doesn't matter.

The name Gram is indeed more memorable than TON, and the early white paper's nostalgic appeal was quite effective.
