The Roman Catholic Pope Leo XIV issues the first papal encyclical "Magnifica Humanitas," focusing on AI and human dignity

PANews, May 25 – The Roman Catholic Pope Leo XIV in Vatican released his first papal encyclical after taking office, titled "Magnifica Humanitas" ("Magnificent Humanity"), focusing on human dignity and social responsibility amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence, automation, and digital technology. The document emphasizes that AI should serve the common interests of humanity rather than weaken human autonomy, creativity, and moral responsibility; it also calls on governments, tech companies, and international organizations to establish ethically aligned technological governance frameworks to prevent algorithmic discrimination, surveillance abuse, and excessive wealth concentration. Leo XIV stated that humans should not outsource moral judgments to machines, and technological progress must be based on safeguarding human values and freedoms.
