Today is my birthday, & I have to be very honest

I’m not really someone who celebrates these kinds of dates
there's a reason for that
I left home at a very young age to move to another country
In some way, that changes you
It dims certain parts of who you are
still, I feel incredibly grateful.
Not every day you turn 34 & have the privilege of being surrounded by your family
Your family is, & should always be, your top priority
Don’t wait until they’re gone to learn that lesson.
