CryptoWorld News reported that on the 1st, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Peskov said the French military’s seizure of a Russian oil tanker is illegal—an act that “is close to international piracy.” At a press conference, Peskov said the French side claims the operation strictly complies with international laws related to the maritime domain, which Russia “by no means agrees with.” Russia is taking multiple measures to ensure the safety of the cargo.
French President Macron posted on social media on the 1st that on May 31, the French Navy intercepted an oil tanker in the Atlantic Ocean that was departing from Russia. He said the operation took place in international waters, with cooperation from multiple partner countries including the UK, and that it strictly complied with international laws related to the maritime domain.
Russian news agency TASS, citing a report from the Russian Embassy in France, said that before France carried out the ship-seizure operation, it did not notify Russia.
