CertiK: Cryptocurrency platform attack losses in May dropped to $68.3 million, a decrease of nearly 90% month-over-month

Odaily Planet Daily reports that CertiK data shows that crypto platform attack losses in May dropped to $68.3 million, a nearly 90% decrease from $650 million in April. May became the third month in 2026 with losses below $100 million. Of which, about $2.6 million came from phishing attacks, and approximately $9.4 million of stolen funds have been recovered or returned. The largest single loss in May was from a cross-chain bridge attack on Verus Protocol, with $11.5 million stolen; THORChain ranked second, with $10.1 million stolen. Code vulnerabilities are the most common attack type, accounting for about $45 million, or 66%; wallet or private key leaks caused a loss of $13.7 million. Cross-chain bridges are the main attack target, with losses of $28.6 million, accounting for 42%. (Cointelegraph)
