Kevork Kechichian, who leads Intel's Data Center Group, said the company is "starting from the basics." Its new "Crescent Island" graphics processor is designed to accelerate "inference" tasks, rather than model training, which is a domain dominated by Nvidia processors. This marks Intel's first foray into the lucrative artificial intelligence infrastructure market under CEO Lip-Bu Tan.
