CoinWorld News reports, according to the Financial Times of the UK, that Intel plans to launch an artificial intelligence chip before the end of this year, which uses memory and cooling technology that is cheaper than similar products from Nvidia and AMD. Kevork Kechichian, who leads Intel's Data Center Group, said the company is "starting from the basics." Its new "Crescent Island" graphics processor is designed to accelerate "inference" tasks, rather than model training, which is a domain dominated by Nvidia processors. This marks Intel's first foray into the lucrative artificial intelligence infrastructure market under CEO Lip-Bu Tan. Tan took office last year, after Pat Gelsinger was ousted due to market concerns over his failed turnaround strategy.

If shipping at the end of the year, there isn't much time left for verification.

Crescent Island sounds like a vacation resort, hope the performance doesn't make people feel like they're on vacation.
