Golden Finance reports that on May 31, Israeli Defense Minister Katz said that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will continue to maintain troops at Bint Jbeil Castle, a strategic stronghold in southern Lebanon, as part of the so-called “Southern Lebanon Security Zone.” Katz said that 26 years after Israel withdrew from Lebanon’s “security zone,” the Israeli flag was raised again on the heights overlooking the Galilee region. He said that the IDF has regained “control” of Bint Jbeil Castle and will continue to garrison there. Katz also said that controlling Bint Jbeil Castle and expanding ground military operations “sends a clear signal to opponents,” adding that “anyone who threatens Israeli civilians will gradually lose their strategic assets.” (CCTV News)
