Golden Finance reports, May 31. According to multiple Japanese media outlets, Japan’s SoftBank Group plans to invest approximately 140 trillion yen (about 75 billion euros) in France to build an artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure project, which includes a data center expected to become the largest in Europe, with an estimated total capacity of 5 gigawatts. As reported on May 31 by outlets including The Nikkei, SoftBank Group Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son will officially announce this investment plan during the French government’s upcoming investment-attraction summit, “Choose France.”
According to the report, the group plans to invest 45 billion euros over the next 5 years to build an initial-phase data center in northern France with a total capacity exceeding 3 gigawatts. The newly built data centers will not only serve the French market, but also provide computing power services to customers in surrounding countries. French electrical equipment manufacturer Schneider Electric will participate in the project, partnering with SoftBank to build AI infrastructure and a robotics manufacturing center in Dunkirk, France.
