US Media: Trump's proposed modifications to the US-Iran agreement involve nuclear material acquisition and the Strait of Hormuz
According to the two sources, Trump asked his team to amend the clauses concerning Iran's nuclear program in the draft. The current memorandum of understanding includes Iran's commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons development, but aside from that, there are no specific concessions. The memorandum stipulates a 60-day window for negotiations on Iran's nuclear commitments and U.S. sanctions relief, with the primary agenda being how to handle Iran's existing enriched uranium stockpile and limit further enrichment activities. Trump hopes to attempt to modify this part. "This is more about how the U.S. obtains (nuclear) materials and specific timing details," said a senior government official when discussing uranium enrichment. The second source said Trump also wants to revise some wording regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. official stated that Trump has been informed that Iran would need about three days to respond. (Jin10)
