Water reservoir tunnel construction accident in Shaodong, Hunan, results in 3 deaths

The Water Resources Bureau of Shaodong City in Hunan Province has issued a notification about a tunnel construction accident at a reservoir. At around 8:50 PM on May 29, 2026, in the pipe-jacking work section at the tunnel outlet of the Land Ridge Tunnel, located in Section II of the Shaofeng Main Canal of the Zishui Quanmutang Reservoir Project, an incident occurred in which personnel were trapped. After receiving the report, departments including fire services, emergency response, water resources, and health, along with the construction unit, quickly rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations. By 2:06 AM on May 30, all 3 trapped personnel were searched for and rescued out of the tunnel; however, despite intensive efforts to provide emergency medical treatment, they later died. At present, follow-up disposal arrangements and accident investigation work are ongoing. (CCTV News)
