EU evaluates unified crypto tax: Seven-year budget cycle could generate 20 billion euros in additional revenue.
On May 30, the European Commission forecasted that implementing a new unified tax on crypto companies could bring in approximately 20 billion euros in revenue during the 2028-2034 budget cycle.
Regarding specific taxes, a 0.1% tax on crypto transaction value would generate about 3-4 billion euros annually, and a crypto capital gains tax could generate 1-2.4 billion euros per year.
Next, three things need to be monitored: whether related funds continue to flow in, whether on-chain trading volume and holdings keep expanding, and whether project teams or regulators provide new confirmation information.
A single news flash can only indicate that sentiment has been ignited; subsequent data will determine whether it can solidify into a trend.
Risks should also be on the table: the relevant proposal aims to address the EU’s common budget funding sources and is currently in negotiations among member states.
