ZeroTier CEO: The greatest quantum computing risk to Bitcoin may come from inter-institutional encrypted communications
Deep Tide TechFlow News, May 30 — Network infrastructure company ZeroTier CEO Andrew Gault stated that the market's discussion of quantum computing threats may be overly focused on Bitcoin wallet private keys, while overlooking broader infrastructure security issues.
Gault pointed out that once quantum computers mature in the future, data transmitted between institutions, exchanges, and financial service providers using traditional encryption methods could become major targets for attacks. Attackers may adopt a "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" strategy, collecting encrypted network traffic, authentication records, and digital signatures in advance, and then decrypting them once quantum computing capabilities reach sufficient levels.
He believes that compared to the risk of a single wallet key being cracked, the quantum security challenges faced by data transmission layers and authentication systems between institutions could have a more widespread impact on future financial systems. Therefore, the industry needs to proactively deploy quantum-resistant encryption technologies.
