Tajikistan President Rahmon stated on the 26th that in order to address a series of current water resource challenges, the world urgently needs to strengthen relevant cooperation. He said that billions of people worldwide still lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, and the future water shortage situation may further worsen. Nearly half of the urban population globally may face water scarcity issues, and the development of emerging industries such as green industries and digital infrastructure will also further increase water demand. At the same time, factors such as droughts, floods, glacier melting, and rising sea levels caused by climate change are continuously intensifying global water resource challenges. Rahmon stated that to address these challenges, the world should further enhance cooperation in the water resource field. To this end, Tajikistan proposed establishing the "Dushanbe Water Resources Framework Plan," to promote ongoing actions in the water sector and lay the foundation for coordinating and integrating efforts to achieve more tangible results. He pointed out that planning for the global water agenda beyond 2030 should begin now to jointly tackle the increasingly severe water resource challenges. (Xinhua)
