Two days of outages! Just yesterday, a bug caused a 6-hour outage

This sudden incident has raised high community concern because the Sui mainnet just experienced a major outage lasting 5 to 6 hours yesterday (28th). This is also Sui’s second large-scale downtime since January 2026.

According to the official summary yesterday, the outage on the 28th was caused by a "gas charging logic crash bug" introduced in version 1.72 update, which led to the mainnet being unable to produce blocks normally. This incident not only interrupted all transactions but also caused the SUI token price to drop by about 8%.

Although the core team pushed a fix and had validators upgrade to restore operation yesterday, the network stall that reoccurred today indicates that the underlying stability issues of the system may not have been fully resolved.
