Feng Jingyao’s most classic line is: “This world is exactly like this—might makes right, the weak prey on the strong, people despise the poor and flatter the rich, and there’s no reasoning to be had; the rules are set by those with power. This line shows his sharp insight into the real rules of life, emphasizing that the survival laws of society’s lower stratum are often led by the strong, while the weak can only passively accept. Similar expressions also include: “The people value politeness above all” … “The jianghu is all about human relationships and worldly dealings,” all of which use direct, incisive language to expose the brutal nature of the lower society.”
