Coin World reports: On May 29, the Japan Ministry of Defense announced local time that it will dispatch four members of the Japan Self-Defense Forces to the headquarters of NATO in Germany. They will be responsible for providing training and equipment support to the Ukrainian military, and starting next month, they will also handle tasks such as planning and coordination. At a press conference following a cabinet meeting, Japan’s Defense Minister Jinnjirō Koizumi said that by dispatching Self-Defense officers, Japan will learn from experiences such as new combat methods appearing on the Russia-Ukraine battlefield, helping to strengthen Japan’s defense system.

The four Self-Defense Forces personnel are scheduled to begin their duties on June 1. Two will be from the Ground Self-Defense Force, and the other two will come from the Maritime and Air Self-Defense Forces, respectively. They will be stationed at a U.S. military base in Wiesbaden, in western Germany, for one year. According to the Ministry of Defense, the four personnel will mainly participate in coordinating assistance to Ukraine rather than combat operations.
