Golden Finance reports that on May 29, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Baghaei issued a firm response to the Trump administration’s recent threats against Oman. U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent previously said that if Oman helps Iran set up a fee collection system in the Strait of Hormuz, Washington will “actively” impose sanctions on it, further intensifying President Trump’s pressure on the Gulf ally. Baghaei said these threats are “an attempt to extort an independent country that is a UN member state, and yet another proof that the U.S. governance and political system has morally gone bankrupt.” Baghaei added that the threat of sanctions is “an illegal act,” and that “the international community should respond responsibly to prevent violations of international legal norms from becoming an increasingly normalized practice.”
