U.S. Treasury Department pushes to issue new banknotes featuring Trump's portrait with a face value of $250

On May 28, officials appointed by the Trump administration at the Treasury Department are actively promoting the printing of a $250 bill bearing Trump's portrait, which will be the first time in over 150 years that a living person's portrait appears on circulating U.S. currency. Treasury officials last August provided the Bureau of Engraving and Printing with a design draft featuring Trump's portrait and signature. The director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, responsible for currency printing, was transferred last month after resisting the plan; in her resignation message, she wrote: "The buck stopped here."
If realized, this move will break the long-standing tradition in the U.S. of not printing living persons on circulating currency. Currently, officials appointed by Trump continue to pressure the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to advance this highly symbolic currency design.
