Apple is set to redefine the AI experience on iPhone at WWDC 2026 on June 8.

Based on Bloomberg and recent viral leaks on social platform X, the expected release of iOS 27 this fall will bring the most disruptive overhaul to Siri in years. Powered by Apple Intelligence’s underlying computing power, Siri will evolve from a simple voice control tool into a versatile AI assistant with deep contextual understanding and highly conversational capabilities.

Siri becomes an independent app, Dynamic Island visual upgrade

The leaked UI preview images highlight a complete redesign of the Siri interface:

  • Dedicated Siri Chatbot App: Siri will have a new standalone app interface, styled similarly to modern large language models (like ChatGPT or Claude). Users can maintain persistent chat history, search past conversations, and upload images and documents for AI analysis. The interface includes a clean "Search or Ask" entry point, with separate tabs for queries, tasks, and history.
  • Deep Integration with Dynamic Island: When Siri is active, the screen edge will light up with the iconic surrounding glow animation. Siri will now handle multitasking and follow-up questions more smoothly, providing a natural, context-aware conversational experience.

Camera built-in "Siri Mode," full integration of third-party AI giants

Beyond text and voice, iOS 27 also significantly enhances Apple’s "Visual Intelligence."

The leaked camera interface reveals a dedicated "Siri Mode" (alongside existing photo and video modes), with the shutter button replaced by the Apple Intelligence logo. In this mode, Siri can instantly recognize objects in the scene, answer complex questions related to the view, and perform in-depth AI visual analysis.

What’s more, Apple demonstrates openness. iOS 27 will include Third-Party AI Extensions. This means users can seamlessly switch to external top-tier models like Google Gemini, ChatGPT, or Anthropic’s Claude within Siri to assist with advanced, complex tasks.

Image generation and system-level AI enhancements

Not only Siri, but iOS 27 also deepens generative AI applications across the entire system:

  • Photos and Image Playground upgrades: Introducing new generative AI editing tools supporting seamless photo extension, quality enhancement, and re-composition. The Image Playground has been redesigned to make generating custom images and emojis easier.
  • Writing and Accessibility features: System-wide search (Spotlight) will become smarter; built-in tools like "Write with Siri" for grammar and writing assistance. Accessibility features are also improved, such as VoiceOver adding detailed "Image Explorer" functions.

These features build upon the initial blueprint of Apple Intelligence outlined in iOS 18, further enabling a more reliable "device + cloud" hybrid computing approach. However, due to the massive computational demands, many advanced features are expected to be limited to the latest chip-equipped iPhones. As WWDC 2026 approaches, the tech world eagerly awaits whether Apple can leverage this killer update to regain dominance in the AI-powered smartphone race.
