Thailand will launch a 100 MW hydrogen data center - ForkLog: cryptocurrencies, AI, singularity, the future
Chinese company U Power, through the joint venture Hydro Data JV, will develop an integrated energy solution for a 100 MW data center in Thailand’s Rayong Province
Project partners include infrastructure developer CEWA Group and hydrogen system manufacturer Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Equipment
The initiative will begin with a 3 MW pilot data center. This phase is necessary to verify technological efficiency and the economic model before full-scale expansion
Hydro Data JV will be responsible for integrating and managing the power system using AI. Guofu Hydrogen Energy will supply the generation equipment and handle services. CEWA will provide local infrastructure.
U Power plans to register a subsidiary in Thailand by the end of July. Operations will begin within 90 days after that.
The company was jointly established in April together with Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Equipment and Cloud Digital Chain Limited.
The company expects to generate revenue from energy design, supply, installation, operations, and management. The system is expected to provide both primary and backup power to the data center.
The project is entering a fast-growing market. In early May, Thailand’s Board of Investment approved six major initiatives totaling 958 billion baht (~$29 billion). Three of them are data centers and hosting projects totaling 913 billion baht (~$27 billion).
Among them are TikTok infrastructure expansion, a DAMAC Group data center with 200 MW, and the Bridge Data Centres project with 134 MW.
Recall that in March, journalists from The Economist predicted an era of space-based data centers.
