🚨 Sudden plunge! Gold crashes below $4,400, why did the king of safe-haven assets suddenly "fail"?
Everyone at Gate and fellow crypto enthusiasts, the commodities market is also starting to show rollercoaster moves! On the afternoon of May 28, 2026, international spot gold (XAU) officially broke below the $4,400 per ounce level, falling more than 20% from the previous high of over $5,600, directly entering a bear market technically! How did gold crash so suddenly? This "waterfall" drop has directly buried many macro traders betting on a rise.
Let me review the underlying bloodbath logic and its impact on our crypto market:
1️⃣ The dollar + US Treasury yields double kill. The Fed has recently been hawkish, with the dot plot hinting at only one rate cut in 2026, or possibly even rate hikes. The dollar index has returned to a strong zone, and as a "zero-yield asset," the holding cost of gold has skyrocketed, causing frantic capital outflows.
2️⃣ Geopolitical conflicts trigger "reverse catalysis." Middle East tensions pushed oil prices ➔ higher, bringing more complex structural inflation ➔, forcing the Fed to keep high interest rates longer (Higher for Longer). Safe-haven funds find "cash in dollars" more attractive, and the classic "cash is king" logic plays out again.
3️⃣ Profit-taking and leveraged longs. Gold surged too rapidly earlier this year, with leveraged longs piling up. Once the $4,400 level was broken, countless technical stop-loss orders and liquidation orders triggered instantly, and algorithmic trading linked in, causing a waterfall sell-off.
💡 What impact does this have on the crypto market? Where is the next support?
Capital outflow effect: traditional safe-haven assets are failing, and tonight's key US PCE inflation data is coming. If gold continues to bleed, could this safe-haven capital flow into digital gold $BTC or highly elastic $SOL assets?
Short-term technical outlook: currently holding the support at 4300 - 4360 (near the 200-day moving average). If this level is broken again, the faith in commodities will be completely shattered.
