Last night before bed, I kept seeing yet another mainstream blockchain upgrade/hard fork stirring things up. Half the comment section was guessing whether projects should migrate, and the other half was FOMO-ing, saying “the ecosystem is about to blow up.” Put simply, in the attention economy: when a hot topic changes, liquidity runs first—then everyone else uses emotion to plug the gap in slippage. My crude rule of thumb: the harder the hot topic comes in, the less I rush to act. First, check whether the depth and routing have returned to normal, and whether transaction costs suddenly get more expensive. If you really have to participate, test it with a small position—if you can exit, exit. Don’t treat “discussion hype” as “liquidity you can exit.” Most of the time, getting repeatedly cut isn’t because you don’t understand—it’s because you move too fast and overthink.
