ByteDance is reportedly developing a custom CPU to support AI needs
According to Reuters, citing sources familiar with the matter, ByteDance is developing its own CPU to support the growing AI infrastructure and plans to deploy it in its own servers and data centers for internal operations and to roll out agent-like products in the future, such as Coze. The company is also advancing two architecture tracks: one based on Arm and open-source RISC-V, assessing long-term data center needs; the other currently relies on purchasing CPUs from Intel and AMD. With CPU prices having risen sharply in recent times, the company is accelerating internal substitution.
