Lately I’ve been looking into IBC, message passing, and other cross-chain gimmicks. The more I look, the more I feel that “cross-chain,” in plain terms, boils down to: who are you willing to trust. Moving from A to B isn’t just trusting the bridge contract—you also have to trust the validators/relayers (who are carrying the messages), trust the destination chain’s finality (so it won’t roll back and slap you in the face), trust that the light client/proof system is implemented without any traps, and even trust that the route you chose won’t be snatched away by someone midstream. A lot of people see the memes and celebrity shouts and get excited about hopping coins back and forth, chasing attention-driven rotations. Me, though, I’m more afraid of ending up as the last one holding the bag… Anyway, before I do a cross-chain transfer, I always ask myself one thing: if this transaction gets stuck or gets reorganized, will I still be able to sleep at night. That’s all for now.
