Do you know when we think that the dollar is the king of currencies? Well, I discovered that there are much more highly valued currencies circulating out there. I got curious and researched the most valuable currencies in the world, and I found it interesting to share what I came across.
Most people only think about the dollar, euro, and pound when it comes to strong currencies. But in reality, the world’s most valuable currencies go far beyond these. The Kuwaiti dinar, for example, is at the top of the list, with a rate of approximately 3.25 USD for 1 KWD. Then come the Bahraini dinar, the Omani rial, and others you probably have never heard of.
For Brazilians like us, investing in foreign currency is a great way to protect assets from inflation and the real’s depreciation. Understanding which are the most valuable currencies in the world helps a lot when thinking about diversification. Currencies like the Swiss franc, the euro, and the British pound sterling continue to be the most traded globally and offer plenty of liquidity.
What I found interesting is that the list of the world’s most valuable currencies changes according to global events, monetary policies, and economic scenarios. The Swiss franc remains that protection-focused asset everyone seeks during times of crisis. The Japanese yen is also always on investors’ radar. And the US dollar, despite no longer being number one, continues to be the most in-demand currency by trading volume.
If you want to enter this market, the most closely followed options are USD, EUR, GBP, CHF, and JPY. Each has its own characteristics: the Canadian dollar is influenced by oil and commodities, the Singapore dollar gains strength with a booming Asian economy, and the Australian dollar rises with demand for minerals.
The important thing is to know that investing in currencies involves risk, especially due to the volatility of the foreign exchange market. Before putting any money in, it’s worth studying how forex works, keeping an eye on exchange rates, and defining a clear strategy. Liquidity is good in these main pairs, so entering and exiting is smooth.
