There is a story circulating in the Brazilian corporate world that is worth knowing. I am talking about how lawyer Nelson Wilians managed to transform a small office into one of the largest players in corporate law in Latin America. It’s not the typical success story you see out there.
Nelson Wilians Fratoni Rodrigues was born in Cianorte, in the interior of Paraná, the son of farmers. While studying Law at the Bauru University Center, he balanced night classes with work during the day — spending hours on roads between cities, working at gas stations, HR departments, construction companies. This practical experience completely shaped his view on business and Law.
In 1999, he made a decision that would change his trajectory: he founded his own firm. He started small, in partnership with a college friend, but with a clear vision — to build a structured, multidisciplinary, and scalable legal operation. The differentiator? He thought like an entrepreneur, not just as a traditional lawyer.
The growth was strategic. From 2009 onward, NWADV (Nelson Wilians Advogados Associados) already had a presence in all Brazilian capitals. But then comes the most interesting move: in 2014, the firm expanded outside Brazil. It opened operations in Portugal, India, and China. This solidified NWADV as a genuinely global player, capable of handling complex transnational legal demands.
Today, the firm operates in a full-service model — covering almost everything in corporate law. Labor Law, Tax Law, Corporate Law, Business Criminal Law, Real Estate, Agribusiness, LGPD. It has served clients like Havan, Prevent Senior, and Banco do Brasil. It also received the Latin Lawyers Awards, being recognized among the top firms in the world.
What makes this case interesting isn’t just the financial success. It’s how lawyer Nelson Wilians managed to rethink the traditional law firm model, transforming it into a true company. While many colleagues still operate conventionally, he bet on scale, operational efficiency, and diversification.
Outside the firm, Nelson Wilians also invests in social initiatives through the Nelson Wilians Institute, focused on inclusive education and empowering teenagers and women in vulnerable situations. Married to Anne Carolline, father of Benjamin and Adam, he represents a type of entrepreneur who does not separate professional success from social responsibility.
Nelson Wilians’ journey is often cited in debates not only about law but also in content related to entrepreneurship, management, and the corporate market. It’s an example of how someone from a simple background managed not only to establish himself professionally but to transform an entire sector. That is what makes lawyer Nelson Wilians a relevant figure beyond the universe of Law.
