According to the latest reports this morning (May 28, 2026)

On the morning of May 28, the United States launched an airstrike on Iranian military targets in the Bandar Abbas area (a strategic port near the Strait of Hormuz). The U.S. called this an act of "self-defense," targeting missile launchers, speedboats, and drone control facilities of Iran accused of threatening commercial ships and maritime operations in Hormuz.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced they responded by attacking a U.S. airbase in Kuwait. They affirmed that "aggression will not go unpunished." Additionally, Iran also launched a drone toward a U.S. commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz (the U.S. shot down 4 drones and attacked an Iranian drone launch unit).
On the 26th, the U.S. also unexpectedly conducted airstrikes on missile launch sites and several Iranian ships in the Hormuz Strait.
Oil prices rebounded, while gold and silver prices continued their prolonged decline.
