Many Taiwanese investors are asking when the U.S. stock market opens.

Actually, this question seems simple, but due to the time difference, many people get confused.
I was the same at first, but later I organized a clear reference table.

Let's start with the most direct answer: during daylight saving time (March to November),
the normal trading hours for U.S. stocks are from 9:30 PM to 4:00 AM Taiwan time the next day.
If you're used to watching the market, this means you’ll need to stay up until midnight to see the market open,
or simply wake up early the next morning to catch the close.
Besides regular trading hours, there are pre-market trading (starting at 4:30 PM Taiwan time)
and after-hours trading (from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM Taiwan time), which can be useful for those who want to get a head start.

When the U.S. stock market opens also depends on when you check, because the U.S. adjusts its clocks every year.
During standard time (November to March), the time difference increases, and the opening time shifts back by one hour,
becoming 10:30 PM Taiwan time.
This adjustment is easy to forget—I’ve fallen into this trap myself, missing several important opening moments because I didn’t notice the time change.

Also, remember that the U.S. stock market closes on certain major holidays.
For example, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, the market halts trading.
This year, there are some special days, like Independence Day on July 4th, and the day after Thanksgiving, which closes three hours early.
If you hold positions, be sure to check these dates in advance to avoid being caught off guard by unexpected market closures.

The U.S. stock market is mainly listed on three exchanges:
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is the largest, with over 3,500 listed companies;
NASDAQ is an electronic exchange, mostly tech stocks like Apple and Microsoft;
The American Securities Exchange (AMEX) mainly lists small- and mid-cap stocks.
Although the exchanges differ, their opening and closing times are synchronized, so you don’t need to worry about time discrepancies.

In short, if you want to trade U.S. stocks from Taiwan, during daylight saving time, keep an eye on the period from 9:30 PM to 4:00 AM,
and during standard time, it shifts back by one hour.
Remember this time relationship, and pay attention to holiday closures, so you won’t miss important U.S. stock market openings.
