I just organized a note on the 2026 US stock trading hours to share with everyone.

First and foremost is the opening time. The main US stock exchanges are the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, and the American Stock Exchange. Although each exchange operates independently, their opening hours are basically synchronized, all during the regular trading hours from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time. Now that daylight saving time is in effect, converted to Taiwan time, it’s from 10:30 PM to 5:00 AM the next day. If you’re used to pre-market or after-hours trading, pre-market is from 4:00 AM to 9:30 AM (Taiwan time 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM), and after-hours is from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM (Taiwan time 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM).

But here’s an important point to note — US stock trading hours shift with the seasons due to daylight saving time, moving forward or backward by one hour during summer and winter. There’s no time difference adjustment here in Asia, so be especially mindful.

Another easily overlooked detail is the US stock market holidays. In 2026, there are several major holidays when the market will be closed, such as New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington’s Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Some of these days will have an early close, like three hours before the usual closing time on Christmas Eve and the day after Thanksgiving. Remember these market holidays so you won’t find the market closed when you want to trade.

If you want to learn about stock market hours in other countries, like Japan, Hong Kong, or the UK, their trading hours are also different, so you can plan according to your trading habits.
